The Mask ðŸŽðŸŽðŸŽ
Who am I???
The question that pains us all.
We have forgotten who we are or have never dared to find out. We forget what we wanted and stood for and most of us never figure out what we are and what we wanna be. We just became what is desired by everyone around us so that we can sail through life smoothly and be praised for it. We put on a mask and it becomes the lens through which we start to see the world and the mask becomes our identity. It's easier to be stuck in the quagmire of routine than to muster the courage to remove the mask. But it starts to take a toll on us and we feel alone in the crowd but unbearable to be alone with ourselves. We spend days, weeks and years, or maybe a lifetime distracting ourselves from what we wanna be. We seek refuge in the higher power and soon the reality hits us that we are born into a religion and caste with no option of autonomous choice. We are taught to behave in a certain way, live a certain way, and believe in certain things. It's hard to break these moral codes, filial responsibilities, and social constructs that are impinged and imbibed in us. From the beginning we are never given a chance to identify ourselves. If some brave or foolish dare to move away from the norm Norm and face their fears, they face unsurmountable challenges, strife, pain, alienation and ridicule sans support. It becomes so hard that we keep procrastinating almost our whole lives. We play hide and seek with life. Alone we fight and face the farcical truth we have created for ourselves. We dread the next day and the day after, living the same fictional existence without any reprieve. We hate ourselves but lack the courage to remove the mask we are hiding behind. We tell ourselves that we are different but we are just sheep moving en masse with all the other lost souls.
But hope is not lost for all. Some of us silently, slowly, steadily and courageously start taking one step at a time, and with each step we leave a crack in the mask. We might not be strong enough to take the mask off at once but with each crack our perspective changes. We feel confident and brave and happier and more free and with enough cracks the mask will fall off. And then when we will look in the mirror called our soul we will proudly say....
HERE I AM!!!
Great write up, harsh reality of majority
ReplyDeleteYes, somewhere sadly we all resonate with it.
